Venda 35mm Negs
This selection contain some of my favourite photographs from Venda, where I have spent quite considerable time, especially when I first started photography. When I look at these scans now, I can almost see the thought processes that went into each picture. I think shooting on film does teach you that discipline - you have a limited resource available and then there is no instant gratification in seeing what you got.

18 imagesA selection of traditional Venda dance, from Soweto and Venda. I photographed these mainly in 2001 on 35mm neg, Leica M6 and M3 and some Canon and I wanted to capture the feeling of being a part of the movement, in the scene.
12 imagesA selection that includes male initiation, female in the royal enclosure and royal males. As everything to do with Venda culture, to an outsider a lot appears secretive and mysterious.
