DRC Exhibition Prints
8 imagesJanuary, 2008. Lubumbashi, DRC. This is my experimental work to try and convey the unreal feelings I had about being in the Congo. The Congo is a fascinating country but one got tired of the endless confrontation/interest in taking pictures in public. It was a relief to sit in the backseat of a 4x4 pick-up truck, safe from the scrutiny of the Congolese.
8 imagesThe King's ceremonial costume weighs over 90 kg and there are four dressers, each with specific tasks. Kinshasa, DRC, January 5, 2008.
7 images19 January 2008, Kolwezi, DRC. Diggers, the local term used for informal, sometimes illegal miners, dig in discarded mine dumps for cobalt, copper and other minerals. Some of this they sell back to the mining company that holds the concession, or to Chinese traders. Desperation forces them to dig as deep as 20 metres under the surface. There are several deaths a year from tunnels collapsing on these brave men.
